Geek Fuel November 2017 Unboxing (Fashionably Late)

Geek Fuel November 2017 Unboxing (Fashionably Late)

Geek Fuel is a monthly subscription box that appeals to gamers, pop culture geeks, movie lovers, collectors, and more.  I get it for my 12 (almost 13) year old stepson, D.  However, this box isn’t just for boys. Geek Fuel has a huge variety of different subscribers, male and female, young and old.

Their website explains that each box is guaranteed to have at least $50 worth of merchandise. Since the box only cost you $24.90 (that’s $18.90, plus $6 shipping & handling) a month, that’s a pretty darn good value!

The types of items you get in your box include toys and action figures, household goods, limited edition comics, collectibles, everyday essentials, hard cover books, exclusive t-shirts, and downloadable games.

Every box is guaranteed to have a cool t-shirt, AND a full-size downloadable STEAM game. Those were the two main reasons I picked this subscription box for D over all of the others out there. He loves STEAM games, and always wears fun comics/pop culture t-shirts, so it’s perfect for him!

Let’s check out November’s box!

The Bonafide Broad is not affiliated with or sponsored by Geek Fuel in any way. We purchase a monthly subscription like everyone else. However, if you sign up for a subscription for Geek Fuel through our referral link, we receive a $5 credit for the referral.  Subscribe here!

The Box

I just love how cram packed the box is full of fun goodies. Let’s dive in chicas and chicos!

So first of all, every month you get a copy of Geek Fuel magazine. Its filled with fun stories, gift ideas, recommendations, interviews and more.

Like most subscription boxes, Geek Fuel includes an information card detailing the items in the box, like so:

I always like to check out the t-shirt first, and November’s is stuffed into a super cool box, which is obviously Jurassic Park related. Whoop whoop!

This shirt is too cool! It features Isla Nublar, and the graphic is wicked cool. Totally digging “Life Finds a Way!” D loved the shirt this month, too.

There is this cool info card featuring the shirt, as well as a promotion where you can take a selfie in the shirt and possibly be featured in the next issue of Geek Fuel magazine. How rad is that?

It’s hard to determine the EXACT value of some of the items that come in the Geek Fuel box, because many of them are exclusive to the company. I’ll try my best.

I googled Isla Nubler t-shirts, and there were quite a few between $15-$20. We’ll go with that.

The next item I am drawn to is the cool little Deadpool Plush toy. We knew there would be a Deadpool item in this month’s box, and Deadpool just so happens to be D’s favorite superhero, so YES!

LOVE that he is white instead of red. It just makes it a little more unique.

You can get the red version of this on Funko Mopeez: Marvel – Deadpool Action Figure“>Amazon for $10.48.

Next up are the Kom-Bot Edition Epic Enamels. I love that Geek Fuel sends collector pins. D can put these on his jacket, his backpack, or anywhere he wants. They are super cool, and great quality too! I like that this month gave us a set of two pins instead of the standard one. Another win!

I can’t find anything regarding price for these pins because they are exclusive to Geek Fuel, so I’m going estimate they are worth about $10 for both.

The next item is amaze-balls! It’s from Star Wars Rogue One, ans it’s a collectible 3D wood model. I like this because not only is is wicked neat looking, but D has to build it. Anything to get the kid doing something besides being glued to the TV.

You can get this wood model on Incredibuilds Star Wars Rogue One: At-Act 3D Wood Model and Book“>Amazon for $16.99.

Moving on, we have a pretty fantastic seasonal item, wrapping paper. Not just ANY wrapping paper either. These have to be the funkiest, most fun wrapping paper sheets I’ve seen in a while. I was surprised how much D and Mr. OG like them, too.

Again, these are exclusive to Geek Fuel, so I’ll have to estimate their worth. Based on wrapping paper prices, and how unique these are, I’ll value them at about $8.

Last but not least, we have our monthly STEAM game. This one is called Lumini. The STEAM website says of the game: “A long-forgotten species, a hostile planet and a journey of discovery! Welcome to the world of Lumini – split and reform your swarm, evolve and discover new abilities to bring the Lumini back to their former glory…”

FUN!

Determining the value on this one was a cinch because it says right on it that it has a $13 value. Nice!

The Verdict

That, my Broads, is November’s Geek Fuel box. Pretty great, I’d say, but let’s check the total value of the whole box to be sure.

Remember, the cost for this box was $24.90. Adding up everything, it looks like the approximate worth for November’s box is between $73 and $78. I’d say that’s fantastic. Its triple the price I paid, and I love hearing that!

What do you Broad’s think?

Do-It-Yourself: How to Make an Awesome Candy Cane Decoration On the Cheap!

Do-It-Yourself: How to Make an Awesome Candy Cane Decoration On the Cheap!

Wrapping paper rolls- the swords of our childhood and the annoying long objects in our waste bins as adults.  (or maybe still swords… I don’t judge!).  As Christmas inches closer and closer, and money gets tighter and tighter, gigantic candy-canes are just what you didn’t know you needed!  Not only are they super easy and affordable to D.I.Y., they’re adorable additions to your Christmas-scapes, office decorations or even outdoor ornaments (if you live in a place where snow and rain don’t plague you during the winter).

One of my favorite things about these little-big guys is the fact that, during the holidays, I have literally every item I need in my house to make them.  I would be willing to bet that you do too!  The items you will need to create your own candy-canes are:

-Cardboard wrapping paper, paper towel and/or toilet paper rolls

-Red and white wire-lined ribbon

*if you don’t have ribbon or the time to hit up your local craft store, you can always use wrapping paper, acrylic paint, markers or anything you have on hand to decorate the canes to your liking

-Scissors

-Tape

*any kind of tape will do here; Duct, masking, Scotch, packing… Seriously, any kind.

To start, gather up your materials and get those rolls ready.  Because I had them on hand, I used wrapping paper rolls, but seriously, any kind of cardboard rolls will work just as long as you can cut them with your scissors. Plus… RECYCLING!

Now that you have your rolls all gathered, it’s time to cut some rings from those babies! This doesn’t have to be technical or measured or clean or neat.  I promised this would be an easy craft and to me, rulers or tape measures equal math, and math equals NOPE!  Nope is not easy in my book.

As you can see I wrote 1-1 & 1/2 inches on the roll… I was wrong and I’m not ashamed to admit it.  I honestly don’t even know if those hash marks are an inch or an inch-and-a-half apart and really, you want rings of all different heights.  It makes forming the “hook” of your cane easier!

Snip snip, cut out those rings!  You’ll need between four and eight for each cane depending on their size.  I dedicated half of a wrapping paper roll to my rings, but if you find that you don’t have enough, (or too many) give it a few days… we all run out of TP at some point in the week!

Check out those awesome rings!  As you can see, they’re all different heights! And for those of you wondering… I made these at work… My desk wasn’t cleaned for this tutorial because this is what my desk looks like at any given moment and if someone tells you theirs isn’t, they’re lying.

Ok… back to those candy-canes!

We have our rings and now the hardest part of the whole project… making those suckers malleable enough to bend into your “hook”.  To do this, you’re going to take your trusty scissors and start cutting strips just about halfway up your rings.  Go all around those babies until you have something that looks like….

This will probably take you some time, so put on a good holiday movie or click on this link (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_StgHl92v5Q) … Here you can watch my personal hero, Nick Offerman, drink scotch in front of a fireplace for ten uninterrupted hours.  (It won’t take you this long to make your canes, but if you’re making a lot of them, Nick will keep you company for a good portion of your crafting time.  Plus, he’s gorgeous!)

You’re going to take your roll and your rings and lay them out to get an idea of how your cane is going to look.  Don’t worry about shoving your rings together, without tape, it’s nearly impossible to get them to stay.  This just helps you allocate your rings and form that trademark “hook”!

Now it’s really time to start constructing!

Because I was at work, and it was the only tape available, I used plain old clear tape.  (If you plan on using clear tape, you may want an extra roll or two of it handy, just to make sure you have enough). Slip that ring on your roll and get-to-taping

As you progress in your “hook” shaping and taping, you will want to make sure you align your rings so they gradually turn downward.  This is where I found myself utilizing my tape supply.  You really want to make sure those babies are taped down or you will find yourself “hook-less” when you go to wrap your canes.  The finished product should look something like the picture below…

You can see how those little cuts in the rings were really worth the time.  Notice all that tape too!  After connecting the rings, I went back over them and added more tape.  Once I had reinforced the “hook” I added EVEN MORE tape (Nick looks pretty impressed!).

After the time I spent cutting the rings, I wasn’t going to take any chances in those suckers falling apart.  Reinforcing the “hook” will make your candy-canes last more than just one holiday season as well!

It took me about 15 minutes to construct the three canes below (not including the monotonous ring-cutting).  I used two wrapping paper rolls, cut in half, and about half of the third roll that was used to make the rings.

Now, it’s time to wrap those babies up in your ribbon!  This jumbo ribbon came from Michael’s and was a whopping 70% off with an in-store coupon.  The single roll pictured below cost around $1.25. I used it to make six canes and still had some leftover!

To begin wrapping, I started just below the “hook”.  I taped the end of the ribbon and wrapped, and wrapped, and wrapped some more until I reached the bottom of the candy-cane!

Now that the majority of your cane is wrapped, it’s time to move on to the “hook”.  I found this was the most tricky part of the entire operation.  Wrapping something flat and relatively straight on to something the complete opposite is difficult. Don’t get frustrated if it takes a couple of times to get it how you want it!  You still have Nick and his cozy fire keeping you company, right?!

Just as you did with the other end, you’re going to “tuck in” that extra ribbon and, if you want, reinforce it with tape.

And that, my friends, is it!

In My Belly in 30: Zippy ChickParm (Chicken Parmesan)

In My Belly in 30: Zippy ChickParm (Chicken Parmesan)

I love chicken parmesan. And as  you’ve probably noticed, I’m  not one of those people that has time to be completely organic, Paleo, gluten-free, etc. Sometimes, I barely have time to sit down to eat at all. That’s real life for me. Maybe your life looks different. Nothing wrong with that. So I’ve been in need of a quick and yummy chicken parmesan recipe.

In fact, I’m always looking for recipes that are delicious, easy, quick, and not completely horrible for my health.

When I find one, I add it to my monthly rotation, and I share it with everyone!

Hence, the idea for In My Belly in 30. In order for a recipe to qualify for this series, it has to be able to be cooked in 30 minutes or less, be uncomplicated, and fairly inexpensive, and not horribly unhealthy. Most importantly, it has to be delish!

The Dish

The first recipe I’ll share in the In My Belly In 30 series is my Zippy ChickParm. This is a super yummy and easy-to-follow recipe that is sure to please anyone you make it for.

So, first things first, we need wine. Today our selection comes from the Provence of the Target Clearance section. It was a whopping $2.99!

Get your priorities straight and start with a glass of wine

I almost always pour myself a glass of wine before I begin cooking because I am an adult and I can drink wine when I cook if I want to. I also feel like it gets my creative juices flowing. And I tend to pour a splash of wine into almost everything I make. Yea, sometimes my life is awesome!

Now that we have wine in hand, let’s do this!

Zippy ChickParm

Ingredients:

3 or 4 frozen breaded chicken breasts/tenderloins

24 ounce jar of marinara sauce

2 cups finely shredded mozzarella

1/4 cup finely shredded Parmesan

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon parsley

1 teaspoon white sugar

Ingredients for Zippy ChickParm

Instructions:

Preheat oven to 425 degrees:

Oven to 425 ° F

Spray an 8 by 8 inch glass pan with nonstick coating:

8 X 8 glass baking pan

3. Pour about 1/4 cup (guessing is fine, exact measurements are unnecessary) of marinara sauce into the 8 X 8 inch pan. Spread evenly with rubber spatula to coat whole bottom of pan:

Gather garlic powder, onion powder, parsley, and sugar (yea, I use cheap spices, what you gonna do about it??):

Measure each spice right into the jar with remaining marinara sauce:

Put the lid on the jar and shake very well, about two minutes, to thoroughly mix the spices into the sauce:

Side point: The sugar is important, so don’t skip it. It cuts the acidity from the tomatoes. I always put a teaspoon of sugar in red sauces.

Ok, back to the recipe. Next, place three or four frozen breaded chicken breasts or tenderloins into sauced pan arranging evenly.  I use Tyson brand, which you can get a big bag of at Sam’s Club or Costco. I only use three, because there’s only two of us eating during the week (so that leaves an extra for Mr. OG’s lunch the next day), but four will fit fine:

Pour spiced marinara sauce over chicken breasts:

Spread sauce evenly:

Sprinkle about 1 1/2 cups of mozzarella cheese over sauce. Then sprinkle the 1/4 cup of Parmesan cheese over the mozzarella. Sprinkle remaining mozzarella over top of Parmesan. Splitting the cheese this way makes sure the Parm doesn’t get really hard on top, and both cheeses melt evenly:

Place dish on center rack of preheated oven:

Set timer for 25 minutes:

At this point, I like to make sure and pour myself a second glass of wine, because it take a lot of sips to get through food prep.

While the timer is going, make your sides. I like to keep it simple. I usually boil some thin spaghetti noodles (use any kind of noodle you like), and simmer some canned or fresh green beans in butter, salt and pepper. Texas toast or garlic bread is a yummy side, too.

After 25 minutes, your ChickParm should look like this:

Yummers!! Serve over the noodles!

There’s your gorgeous Zippy ChickParm! Don’t forget to pour yourself another glass of wine before digging in!

Like I promised, if you followed the instructions correctly, you will have a yummy hot meal in 30 minutes from start to finish! Also, you will likely be a little bit tipsy. What’s bad about that?

Bon Appetit!!

Bring It Like a Broad: Grace Garfield Lends a Helping Hand!

Bring It Like a Broad: Grace Garfield Lends a Helping Hand!

Women changing the world. Isn’t that something we should be celebrating? Of course it is! Which is why I am super stoked to introduce a new monthly series here on The Bonafide Broad, called Bring it Like a Broad!

Each month, Bring It Like a Broad will feature a woman who inspires me and those around her. Some months this will take the form of interviews with women changing the world today. Other months, a lady from the past who made her mark on this world may be featured.

The purpose of this series is to highlight real women who are doing or have done the extraordinary. It is my hope that celebrating these special people and their accomplishments will help each of us to believe in the possibility of our own goals and dreams. I also hope that seeing these women changing the world will blaze paths for all the little girls out there who will grow up someday and want to join their ranks.

Without further adieu, I’d like to introduce our first Broad in this series!

The Broad

This is Grace Garfield:

Grace Garfield, founder of A Helping Hand Global

She is very special, which is why she is the perfect person to be the very first Broad featured in this series. Guess what? She isn’t just beautiful on the outside!

Grace is a twenty-year-old woman who is bound and determined to change the world for the better! In fact, she is helping people in need every single day. I had the privilege of meeting Grace a few months ago, when my sister briefly lived with her, and I can honestly say she has changed my life for the better. She is a person that radiates love and motivation. Her drive is more contagious than a yawn!

Grace is the founder of A Helping Hand Global. What is that, you ask? I’ll let her explain:

Grace: A Helping Hand Global is a 501(c)(3) based in Vancouver, WA. We distribute free “Care Kits” to women through our connections into other nonprofits and programs that serve people in need.  In these Care Kits we provide free and necessary feminine hygiene products such as tampons, pads, pain relievers, hand sanitizing wipes, and feminine wipes. We are excited to provide a few women with eco-friendly options such as menstrual cups and reusable pads.

Grace is truly an amazing person, and I want you Broads to know her a little better. She may just change you like she has changed me and so many others! I had a chance to ask her a few questions, and her replies are insightful and super motivating. Enjoy!

THE INTERVIEW

ME: What is your background?

GRACE: I was nothing spectacular in school. For example, I wasn’t great at math, or science, or basically anything that didn’t genuinely interest me as a person. While I was an average student, it was probably more toward the lesser than average student. I think I had a C average. I’m not ashamed at all, the school system sucked.

My freshman year I was accidentally placed into an Intro to Marketing class with a Mr. David Johnson. Trust me when I say this, it really did change my life. My teacher pulled me aside and told me I had an actual knack for business and marketing.

[Over] the next 3 years, I qualified for state and went to international competitions twice. It was the only thing I was authentically good at, and it felt awesome. After graduation, I took some classes at Clark College. I didn’t do too well there either.

For anyone who understands this, I’m an INFP in the Myer Briggs scale of personalities. I highly recommend this quiz (https://www.16personalities.com/free-personality-test). Being an INFP means that my job or what I do with my time has to align with my values, emotions, who I am, and who I want to be. Above all, am I being authentic? So I stopped going to school to figure me out.

ME:  How did you come up with the idea for A Helping Hand? What was your motivation for creating a nonprofit?

GRACE: My family went down to Louisiana when they had bad flooding last year. I had to work and didn’t have the funds to go and help, and I was really, really, really disappointed. I am an able-bodied person with first-aid and CPR training, and I wanted to go. But I had to work.

I thought to myself, “What can I do myself, here in Washington?” I thought of sending food and blankets, but a lot of people already had that covered. Over the next few weeks, it was like I was searching for an answer but I didn’t even know where to really start. I mean, a lot of people were helping.

As life happens, I got my period and went about my normal life. I then thought to myself, “I don’t ever hear about people donating feminine supplies to people, ever.” On no occasion, in TV-series, movies, documentaries, nobody talks about women’s menstrual cycles, ESPECIALLY when there is a natural disaster. My creativity stepped in and I started thinking about sending tampons in basically Altoids cans. [They would be] durable enough to last, waterproof while being light, and easy enough to transport to disaster areas.

Through a lot of back and forth with my good friend Sam, I was able to come to our current “Care Kits.” I also didn’t like the idea of waiting for a natural disaster to occur to be able to send help, so I made our mission to provide free Care Kits to any woman, in any situation, for free.

The actual ideas and prototypes started in late 2016. By January of this year, I was ready to commit my time and money to get this started. I built my website myself. I started my first campaign and received many positive reactions. It was so exciting people liked my idea! [Over] the next few months, I started to become legal and [figure out] why I wanted to do something like this. It was never about the money, so a nonprofit was an obvious choice for me.

I don’t want to toot-my-horn or anything, but I did everything myself. I did press releases, business plans, writing Board Member handbooks, finding board members, etc. The weird thing is the paperwork was the easiest thing to do out of everything. It wasn’t that hard. I had to file with the Secretary of State for an EIN. (employer identification number) so I could then go to the IRS to finish the rest of the paperwork.

ME: Can you walk me through step-by-step how you got the ball rolling and got to where you are today?

GRACE: I filed with the Secretary of State to register and get an EIN. I then followed the IRS website word for word, found what paperwork I needed, printed it off at work (lol), and then paid the fees and registered. The legal formalities of Articles of Incorporation and liabilities were a little complicated, but I just dedicated some time to studying, and I figured everything out.

ME: What obstacles have you faced along your journey, and what have you done to overcome them?

GRACE: Time mostly. I worked as a CNA and an office administrator when I first started getting the ball rolling. It was very difficult [to be] working 40+ hours a week caregiving and not making decent pay and still have energy and motivation to work on my nonprofit. The nonprofit only works when I have time to push it forward; otherwise it stagnates. I wish I could run my non profit full-time, but I have to find a balance.

ME: Did you ever feel like giving up? If so, how did you pull through and move forward?

GRACE: I feel like I’m letting everyone down when I don’t have time or energy to put into my nonprofit. I know what steps I need to take, I know my plan, but on the day-to-day it’s difficult to push forward with a few hours here and there. It helps to move forward knowing that Rome wasn’t built in a day; I always get ahead of myself. It’s so easy to be stagnate with seeing how much further you need to go, but I got here, so I will get there eventually.

ME: Do you have a quote or mantra that you tell yourself to keep yourself going?

GRACE: John 15:12- “This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.”

Deuteronomy 15:11- “For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land.”

Acts 20:35-  “I have showed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.”

ME: You said you have a regular job outside of A Helping Hand, AND you go to school. How do you balance your obligations and find the time to get everything done?

GRACE: It’s very hard. Sometimes I’ll go a few days without focusing on my nonprofit just because of life. I work as a CNA for adults with developmental disabilities. I’m currently working on getting certifications so that I will be qualified to work with children with developmental disabilities.

ME: Who are your biggest influences? Who do you admire the most, or who has given you inspiration to accomplish what you have?

GRACE: My grandmother Jean Simmons. She passed away a few years ago and it’s still hard on me. She was a bigger-than-life person and she had an even bigger heart. Everywhere she went, she helped and loved.

She worked closely with Must Ministries down in Marietta, Georgia for years. They are a program that helps people in a few towns with food, job preparations, resume builders, business clothes, elderly help, school programs, holiday programs. They just do everything you can imagine for their people in need. I mean, just the love and sense of service is an amazing thing to behold.

My grandmother was the one who started a backpack program for children so that everyone would have food, new school supplies, new clothes, everything to help them achieve their education. She started it small and it grew to be HUGE. I remember fondly helping her with her annual back-to-school event. She taught me so much and I am blessed to be following in her footsteps.

ME: What are your future goals? Where do you see yourself in five years?

GRACE: I’m not really sure and I don’t really care. As long as my nonprofit is functioning and helping women, then that is my goal. I hope to build my non profit very similarly to Must Ministries. To provide business clothes to women, have volunteers to help build their resumes and find jobs, find affordable houses, and just anything I can do to help someone in need to live their best life.

ME: What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

GRACE: Take a deep breath.

Original artwork on one of A Helping Hand Global’s feminine care kits

ME: What is your best advice for others who want to achieve a goal similar to what you have achieved?

GRACE: You are here on this earth for a reason. You have unique and beautiful gifts that only you have. Your passion and spark is what makes you POWERFUL. Use that passion and don’t look back. The best things happen when you come out of your comfort zone. Do not be scared of failing. Laugh, and live. You’ll have a blessed life when you follow your soul.

A final thought from Grace:

GRACE: I will never have any education or requirements to work or volunteer with me and my nonprofit. We are here to help each other through life by showing love and generosity to others. I hope you’ll come with me on this journey. If you would like to be partners, become a donor, or be a sponsor please contact me. I’m excited to start new relationships!

My final thoughts:

See what I mean, Broads? It’s impossible to learn about Grace without wanting to change the world yourself! If there’s one thing Grace has taught me, it’s that nothing is too big, and if the motivation behind your actions is truly good, you can be an unstoppable force.

Good luck Grace! We are all rooting for you, and walking behind you, using the footsteps you’ve created to guide us!

Six Easy and Creative Ideas For Thanksgiving Leftovers

Hello Broads! Now that we have all risen from our holiday-induced food comas, we have to address the pounds and pounds of leftovers free-riding in the kitchen.

What to do? Sure, today you’re eating turkey sammiches with cranberry sauce and cream cheese, but isn’t there more? What else can you concoct with these marvelous heaping piles of left-behinds?

The following are six of my favorite unique ideas for your leftovers that will be as good, if not better, than the original feast!

Eggnog French Toast Casserole with Cranberry Compote

This works best if bread is slightly dry or stale for maximum absorption. You can leave bread out overnight. If you forget, no biggie.

Casserole Ingredients:

4 large eggs

4 cups eggnog

2 teaspoons vanilla

1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon

1 1/2 teaspoons nutmeg

1/2 teaspoon cloves

8 large slices slightly stale bread

Compote Ingredients:

2 cups cranberry sauce

1 teaspoon vanilla

1/4 cup brown sugar

1 cup wine

Instructions:

Grease a 9 by 12 inch baking dish with cooking spray. Arrange 8 pieces of bread in dish, slightly overlapping each other.

Whisk together first six ingredients until well blended. Pour over bread, coating evenly. Cover with aluminum foil and refrigerate for one hour.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Leave dish covered with foil and bake for 25 minutes.

For cranberry compote:

In medium saucepan, combine leftover cranberry sauce, vanilla, brown sugar, and wine (red or white, or even the stale champagne leftover from last night). Bring to boil. Turn heat down and simmer gently, stirring occasionally, for about 15 minutes, or until thickened up.

Serve 2 pieces french toast topped with 1/2 cup cranberry compote. Drizzle with pure maple syrup.

Breakfast Stuffing Hash

Breakfast hashes are great ways to use up leftovers from lots of different types of meals. A day-after-thanksgiving hash is one of the best! You will make this part of your yearly tradition after trying it once.

Ingredients:

6 slices bacon, diced

1/4 cup butter (1/2 stick)

1/2 medium yellow onion, finely diced

2 cups frozen diced potatoes

1 cup stuffing

1 cup diced turkey

1 cup shredded cheese

Instructions:

In a large heavy cast iron skillet, saute diced bacon over medium heat, until slightly crisp. Remove to paper towel to drain.

Melt butter in bacon grease. Toss in diced onions and frozen potatoes, and cook until potatoes are golden brown and onions are translucent, about 15 to 20 minutes.

Return bacon to pan, and mix in stuffing and diced turkey. Cook until everything is heated through. Sprinkle with shredded cheese.

Serve topped with an over-easy or over-medium fried egg.

Mashed Potato Bowls:

I love mashed potato bowls! Something about the layers of amazing leftovers mixing together, so you get a bit of each in every bite, is just perfect and comforting. These one-dish-wonders are easy and forgiving, and you can put pretty much anything you want in them. Here’s my favorite way to have them:

Ingredients:

Mashed potatoes

Stuffing

Turkey, shredded or diced

Green beans

Gravy

Shredded cheese

Instructions:

Layer ingredients in order in a microwave safe bowl. I usually put about even amounts of each (with extra gravy, of course), but adjust according to your taste. Microwave on high for 3 minutes. Bon appetit!

Turkey Pot Pie:

Ree Drummond, the Pioneer Woman, taught me how to make fantastic turkey pot pie. I add a few of my own little twists, but credit goes to Ree for the basis of this deliciousness.

Ingredients:

2 frozen pie crust sheets

2 cups chopped turkey

3 cups low-sodium chicken broth

1/2 cup (1 stick) butter

1/2 cup diced onion

1/2 cup diced celery

1/2 cup diced carrot

splash of Worcestershire sauce

1/2 teaspoon paprika

1/4 cup flour

1/2 cup heavy cream

3/4 cup frozen peas

salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions:

I try keep pre-made pie crust sheets and frozen peas in my freezer, which makes this dish a cinch.

Preheat your oven to 400 degrees. Melt a stick of butter in a deep skillet on medium heat. Add diced onion, celery, and carrot. Stir in a splash of Worcestershire sauce and paprika (i like to use Smoked Spanish paprika). Saute until veggies become slightly translucent, 3 to 5 minutes.

While veggies are sauteing, coat your 8 or 9 inch pie pan with cooking spray, and press a pie crust sheet into it.

Add roughly chopped leftover turkey to veggies and let warm up for about a minute. Then mix in flour. You want to get the starchy taste out of the flour, so let mixture simmer for about 4 or 5 minutes. Stir in low sodium chicken broth, heavy cream, and frozen peas. Allow to come to a soft boil, stirring frequently so cream doesn’t scorch. When it has thickened up, season to taste with salt and pepper.

Pour mixture into prepared pie crust. Top with another sheet of pie crust. Trim both about 1/2 inch wider than the pie pan, and crimp bottom and top crusts together by pressing with a fork. Make four small slits in center to allow steam out.

Bake for 35 minutes, or until bubbly and crust is golden brown. Cool for 20 minutes before serving.

Fancy Turkey Salad

This is such a versatile salad! You can eat it alone, on bread, in a wrap, or over a couple of cups of greens. The Greek yogurt keeps the base healthier and less fatty, but the mayonnaise retains a needed creaminess. This beats plain old turkey on rye!

Ingredients:

2 cups diced leftover turkey

1/2 cup sliced almonds

2 sticks celery, diced

1 medium apple, diced

1/2 cup finely sliced green onion

1 cup plain nonfat Greek yogurt

1/2 cup mayonnaise

1/2 teaspoon dried mustard powder

Salt and pepper to taste

Optional: 1/2 cup raisins, lettuce, 1/4 cup cranberry sauce

Instructions:

Combine turkey, almonds, celery, apple and green onion in large bowl and stir until combined.

Mix Greek yogurt, mayonnaise, dried mustard, salt and pepper in smaller bowl. Stir very well, then add to larger bowl with turkey. Toss everything together. Refrigerate for 30 minutes to allow flavors to marry, if possible.

I like to spread cranberry sauce over two slices of bread, add a piece of lettuce and about 2/3 cups of turkey salad and enjoy!

Pumpkin Pie Milkshake

Pie milkshakes are a stroke of genius. Whoever the hell thought of stuffing a piece of pie into a blender with ice cream was a hero. They probably rescued children from burning houses and kittens from trees on the daily.

This milkshake is nothing short of decadent! One piece of pie make 2 milkshakes. Just in case you need another!

Ingredients:

1 piece of pumpkin pie (1/8 of the pie)

2 cups vanilla ice cream

1 cup whole milk

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

Whipped cream and nutmeg for garnish

Instructions:

Add all ingredients except whipped cream garnish nutmeg into blender. Cover and blend on medium speed until there are no chunks left. Pour into two glasses. Top with whipped cream and a pinch of nutmeg and enjoy!

There you have it! My top favorite recipes to create with the stacks of leftovers from Thanksgiving.

Now you won’t get sick of turkey sammiches and just end up throwing away all those leftovers. Waste not want not, they say!

In fact, after trying each of these, I bet you’ll start looking forward to the days after Thanksgiving just as much as the actual day!

Happy Holidays Broads! Now get those Christmas trees up!

Boxycharm Subscription Box: November 2017 Unboxing!

Boxycharm Subscription Box: November 2017 Unboxing!

Boxycharm is a beauty subscription box that costs $21 per month. They feature makeup, skin care, and hair care products, and their website states that they send 4 to 5 full-sized or luxury-sized beauty products in each box. The company guarantees the box value to be over $100.

Boxycharm is my all time favorite subscription box. If I had to get rid of all of my boxes but one (what a sad world THAT would be), I would keep Boxycharm without thinking twice.

For me, no other box delivers the fantastic value of Boxycharm. Every month I find myself wondering how they can send so many amazing and EXPENSIVE products, but only charge $21! It rocks my socks!

You can sign up here.

NOTE: This post may contain referral and/or affiliate links, so I make a commission from some of them. However, I promise I will NEVER recommend a product unless I have personally tried it or have done research and would purchase it myself. I will also remove anything from my blog that is unsatisfactory for any reason, so please contact me if you encounter a problem or issue with any product I recommend.

THE BOX:

November November I’m ready for what you have to offer me! Let’s do this!

I just LOVE the moment I open my box, before I can see what’s included. Look how pretty! And it’s all mine!

Boxycharm selected the perfect theme for November. The weather is getting chilly and we’re all pulling out our boots, gloves, scarves, long socks, beanies and coats. Yep, it’s Sweater Weather.

There is always a nice little information card that describes what products you are getting and their retail value. Like so:

Let’s check out the items:

The first thing I notice (maybe cuz it’s giant, white, and on top of everything else) is the Cover FX Illuminating Setting Spray, which I actually saw a spoiler for on My Subscription Addiction.

It’s so pretty! I’ve really been looking forward to getting this item. The value is great! The info card lists a retail price of $31, which more than covers the cost of the box, and it’s the first item!

The info card explains that this product is meant to be used as a spray to set your makeup for long-wear (all day, in fact). It mentions that this will impart instant, all-over illumination.

Ok, so I sprayed two pumps onto my hand. I don’t know if it was because I sprayed too close or too much, but it was instantly dripping down and off my hand. By rubbing it in, I was able to get a decent picture of what it might be supposed to look like.

I had to blend it A LOT, though. Here it is:

Broads and Boy-Broads, this is VERY reflective. I mean, it makes it look like I covered my hand with aluminum foil. Whoa!

This result has me wondering about using this as an all-over spray. I’m a little afraid that if I spray it directly onto my face, it will just drip down and cause super reflective tear drops all over my makeup. If I spray it too far away, will it get all over me and my clothes and turn me into a ball of runny light?

I think the way I will try use this is to spray it onto my finger or a beauty blender first, and then rub it into strategic places (cheek bones, brow bones, Cupid’s bow, etc.) on my face to maximize dewiness but minimize me turning completely white when cars drive by me at night (you know, like reflective street signs do).

One thing I’m sure of, I’m not gonna do a whole face worth of makeup and then spray this on top, because I’m lazy and am afraid the result may ruin all my efforts. Did I mention I’m lazy?

What I really need to do is spray this on to my face after I’ve just washed , so I’ll be clean and makeup free. That way, I’ll get a good feel for what it will look like used as a setting spray. I’m still excited about this product, it’s just a little different than I anticipated.

I checked it out online, and the Illuminating Setting Spray retails for $31 on the Cover FX website, just as the info card stated.

Moving on, the next item that catches my eye is the Luxie Beauty Quad Eye Travel Set. I’m a big fan of Luxie, so this is exciting!

These are nice looking brushes. One thing you can’t tell from the picture is that they are quite a bit shorter than a typical makeup brush. Hence the travel aspect, I assume. This set includes brushes 207T, 213T, 221T, and 227T. According to the info card, these retail for $32.

I visited the Luxie website to compare pricing. Unfortunately, because this is a set created specifically for Boxycharm, it doesn’t sell on the website. I was unable to find a set that has all four of these same brushes. So I priced them out individually.

The 207, 213, and 221 brushes retail for $12 each. The 227 brush is not sold individually. I found similar brushes in a couple of their sets. Bummer, because this happens to be my favorite brush in this set, a blending brush, and I’d like to know the value.

For the sake of this blog post, let’s just say that, like the others, the 227 brush would cost $12. That would be $48 for all four brushes.

I haven’t decided if I’ll keep this set or add them to someone’s Christmas gift, but these are a great addition to the box this month. Good job Boxycharm!

Next I see the KNC Beauty Collagen Lip Masks.

I get a lot of masks in subscription boxes, which suits me fine, but I don’t get a lot of lip masks, so yay! When I realize Boxycharm threw in three of them, I’m stoked man. I can have a couple friends over and we can do lip masks together. Or I can slip these into the stockings of a couple of friends around Christmas time. Perfect!

Either way, I will definitely be using one of these lip masks for myself. Since moving to Flagstaff, I’ve had to carry chap stick everywhere because it’s so dry! My lips need some TLC. I’m excited to see the results!

According to the info card, these masks are $15, so they run about $5 each. This was confirmed when I checked out other sites. Nordstrom sells a set of five for $25, so pretty spot on.

After using the lip mask, a natural next item to turn to would be the Laqa & CO Cloud Lips. I’m unfamiliar with this brand. I love meeting new makeup and skincare brands, so nice to meet you Laqa & CO (shakes hand).

This lipstick is very pigmented, which I love. It has a matte finish, but it isn’t heavy. It’s made with avocado oil, so it feels nice and light on your lips (or hand).

I was pleasantly surprised by the shade I received, because I have so many nude lipsticks from subscription boxes. I realize the reason for this–a medium nude color seems to look good on all skin shades and types. But it’s nice to get a lipstick that makes a statement. Check it:

Isn’t that a fun pop of color? Very feminine. It’s a full-coverage lipstick, so it doesn’t take much to get a nice intense lip. This is definitely not a color I personally would wear during the day. However, it’s perfect for a date, or a girls night out. It just screams FUN to me! This will go into my night out lipstick rotation.

The info card says this item retails for $17. Sure enough, that’s exactly what I see it for on the manufacturer’s website. Not bad!

The final item in this months box was at the very bottom, and it’s GORGEOUS!! It’s the Winky Lux Kitten Pallet.

When I opened it up, I was super happy. These are great colors! I was even more excited after swatching the colors.

Very beautiful, and a nice mix of lights, neutrals, and jewel colors. I can’t wait to play around with it!

The info card explains that this palette retails for $25, which is exactly the price you will find it for on Winky Lux’s website.

**Side Rant** The other day I saw someone comment in a Boxycharm Facebook group that they were “so over” palettes. It almost broke my ears. I can promise I will never be “over” palettes, ESPECIALLY when they come in a subscription box! For one, when you get a palette in a subscription box, the palette alone is almost always worth more than the cost of the WHOLE BOX! Second, they are always beautiful and have a nice variety of shades and textures. And lastly, if I end up not really wanting the palette, they make excellent gifts for your family or friends. How can any of that be bad? I will always hope for a palette in my box! **Rant Over**

FINAL THOUGHTS:

As usual, Boxycharm nailed it this month! They always give such a nice variety of items, and the value is consistently top-notch.

The total value of everything, according to the information card sent with the products is $120. I found all of these items online for $136. So, to buy these same items actually costs more than Boxycharm determined, because of the exclusive Luxie Eye Quad Travel Set.

Again, the cost of the box is $21/ month. Like I said, in my book, no other beauty subscription box even compares in value for the price!

I am not paid or affiliated with Boxycharm in any way. I buy a monthly subscription like everyone else. I just love them THAT much!

I highly recommend signing up! If you sign up using my referral link (here it is again), we BOTH get extra points, which can go toward free products!

Thanks Broads!

Ipsy Subscription Box: November 2017 Unboxing!

Ipsy Subscription Box: November 2017 Unboxing!

Ipsy is a fantastic monthly subscription box, created by beauty influencer Michelle Phan, as well as Marcelo Camberos and Jennifer Goldfarb. It’s been around since 2011, and is the very first subscription box I ever tried back in 2015.

When you sign up, you complete a beauty profile quiz, which determines the products you receive in your bag. Some subscribers don’t think the quiz makes much of a difference, but I have noticed I almost never get hair products, which was what I specifically stated in my beauty quiz that I didn’t want. It seems like they’re listening.

I stick with Ipsy because it’s only $10 a month, you get 4 or 5 deluxe-sized or full-sized products that always come in a cute little makeup bag, and the company’s website says the value of each bag is around $50.

Another thing I LOVE about Ipsy is that you get points for reviewing the products in the bag, and you get to trade in your points for extra items. I’ve gotten several awesome items from my points, like a full-sized concealer, an eye shadow palette, and a crystal nail file.

It’s also exciting because your bag comes in a bright pink shiny bubble mailer. Every time I see that super shiny pink in my mailbox my heart flutters with happiness!

Let’s check out this month’s bag:

I saw a spoiler for this bag on the Ipsy app, and subscribers will receive it in either blue or yellow. I’m so glad I got blue!

First thing, your bag will have a little info card that explains why they chose the specific theme they did, as well as some sort of online promotion-type thing they are featuring for the month.

This month’s theme is: All You

I like that they are featuring real life Ipsters (the company’s nickname for subscribers) this month. They usually feature popular online beauty influencers, so it’s fun to see real life people.

I just wish they would put the approximate value of each product on the card. However, they tailor boxes to each person, so it would probably cost a lot to make different cards with specific products for each subscriber. I get it.

The first item I’m drawn to is that fantastic colorful box with the tiger on it. It’s the Glamour Dolls Bitten & Bronzed Matte Bronzer. Here’s what the actual item looks like:

I got instant nostalgia, because it reminded me of the Lisa Frank brand that all of us 90’s ladies loved in grade school. I mean we had Lisa Frank Trapper Keepers, pen boxes, peechees, lunch boxes, book covers, etc! And, of course, we put Lisa Frank stickers on everything!

I was delighted to see this is ACTUALLY a Lisa Frank inspired item!

Here’s what it looks like swatched:

It’s nice and subtle, but definitely buildable. I like that it isn’t super orange-y (although my hand makes me look like an Ooompa-Loompa). This will be used for sure.

This item retails for $4.99 on the Glamour Dolls website.

Next up is this gorgeous makeup brush by slmissglam. On the side of the brush, it says it’s the B36 tapered brush.

What a beautiful color, and the little rhinestones are a nice touch, too!

I couldn’t find this exact brush anywhere. I believe it was made specifically for Ipsy (You, know, cuz it says IPSY right on it).

However, I did find several brush sets on the slmissglam website with tapered highlight brushes in them. By dividing the cost of the brush set by the number of brushes included, I determined that the average individual price for a tapered highlight brush from slmissglam is about $15. We’ll go with that.

The next item I see is by Too Faced, a brand I love. It’s their Hangover 3-in-1 Replenishing Primer and Setting Spray.

Truth be told, I’m disappointed in this item. It’s so tiny that I don’t even want to try it on my hand, for fear I’ll use it all.

I have tried the Too Faced Hangover Replenish Primer (the one in the tube), and it’s a good primer. This is taking that primer a step further and turning it into a multitasking spray that Too Faced claims can work as a primer, moisturizing mist and/or setting spray. It’s packed with fantastic ingredients like coconut oil and probiotics to boot!

Since I can’t try it on, I went online to see what people are saying about it. Apparently it’s a pretty decent product. The general consensus I seemed to find is that it works best as a refreshing spray over your makeup throughout the day. So I’ll try it that way this week at work. We’ll see. I’m a little disappointed though.

This is $32 online at Ulta, for the full-sized version. Since this sample size is so tiny, it comes out to a value of about $1.42

Now I am turning my focus to the product by Tarte, another brand I love. This is their Deluxe Amazonian Clay 12-hour Blush, which I’ve heard good things about.

Subscribers received one of three shades: feisty, quirky, or idol. I got feisty. This is a gorgeous shade! Here it is swatched:

It’s VERY subtle, and I even tried to build it up a little. But I always think subtle is good in blush. It’s so easy to get clownish with too much blush. So I’m good with the subtlety.

This is their mini-travel sized version. At .05 ounces, it’s a quarter of the size of the regular one. I found this size and shade on Amazon for $10.50 with free shipping. The full-sized version is $29.99.

The last product in this month’s bag is the Touch in Sol Advanced Real Moisture Liquid Foundation. Subscribers will get either Shade #23 Natural Beige or Shade #21 Nude Beige. I got #23 Natural Beige, which looks like this swatched:

The left picture is after barely rubbing it in, and the right is after blending it well. This is a perfect shade for me, as it disappears completely into my skin color. It felt very light, but with good coverage. It’s buildable, and not even a little cakey. Ipsy recommends on their website that you warm this up in your fingers before applying and it will be much more blendable. It has SPF 30, too, which rocks!

This bottle is 10 ml, which is a third of the size of their full-sized version. The full-sized version can be found on Amazon for $22.98, so I’m gonna divide that by three, making the value of this deluxe sample $7.66.

I will likely use this in the spring and summer, when I switch to a lighter, more dewy foundation. Can’t wait!

FINAL THOUGHTS:

This month’s Ipsy was pretty damn good. The value I calculated came to $39.57, and that doesn’t factor in the makeup bag. So the value is about 400% of the cost. Totally worth $10 in my book.

The real disappointment was the tiny Hangover Spray. I mean, come on, what’s the point of a sample that small, especially when it’s a spray? Just stupid.

Ipsy nailed it with everything else though, so I can’t put too much emphasis on the one disappointment.

I am not paid or affiliated with Ipsy in any way. I buy a monthly subscription like everyone else.

I highly recommend signing up! If you sign up using my referral link, we BOTH get extra points, which can go toward free products!

Talk to ya lata Broads!

Gift Guide for Men: 30 Super Unique Men’s Gifts

Gift Guide for Men: 30 Super Unique Men’s Gifts

Why are men’s gifts so hard to find? Without a doubt, the most difficult person in my life to get gifts for is Mr. Og. Whether it’s Christmas, Valentine’s Day (which is almost upon us!), or our anniversary, it never gets easier.

Part of the reason is because he never wants anything specific, and he always says, “I just don’t NEED anything.” Or he suggests things like socks, boxer briefs, and of course, a pair of Jordan’s.

It takes a lot to think of great gifts that will blow his mind. Sometimes I succeed, and other times I fail miserably.

I imagine many of you Broads feel the same way when it comes to men’s gifts. So I’m gonna help you out, and suggest some amazing and unique gifts for him. These range in price from just a few dollars to a significant investment. You are sure to find something that fits your budget and, MOST IMPORTANTLY, that will absolutely knock the socks off your mister!

Without further adieu, let’s dive in right in!

1. Viking Drinking Horn

This is an amazing gift for a manly man. I mean, does it get more manly than Vikings???

What’s great is that this is made from 100% natural buffalo horn, and it’s been polished and sealed to keep it gorgeous and to prevent leaks. It can hold a pint of beer, and it also comes with a lovely stand for displaying.

It’s $49.99. Get it here.

2. Stuff Every Man Should Know by Brett Cohen

I got this little book for Mr. Og a couple of years ago. It’s great! It’s a perfect bathroom reader, and it’s not just a joke, either.

The information contained in this tiny book is actually valuable. For example, it’ll tell your guy how to cast a fishing rod, get a raise, make a perfect martini, give a great massage and more!

It’s also only $8.45! Whoop whoop! Get it here.

3. A wallet with RFID blocking for extra security

Every guy needs a wallet. It’s just one of those things that wears out and needs to be replaced every year or two.

Nowadays, you can get men’s wallets with RFID blocking so assholes can’t steal your credit or debit card information. This wallet is great because it not only has the extra security, but it also has a fantastic minimalist design. I love this striking blue finish, but there are a ton of colors to choose from. It includes a money clip too!

Extra props for being under $20, at only $16.99!! Get it here.

4. Fossil Q Marshal Gen 2 Smoke Stainless Steel Touchscreen Smartwatch

These next three suggestions are all types of watches, but each is unique for certain types of guys.

For the tech lover who also likes classy looking accessories, this first one is perfect! We’ve seen Apple watches. They are wicked convenient and all, but hella ugly!

This Fossil Q Marshal Gen 2 Smoke Stainless Steel Touchscreen Smartwatch has amazing features!  It has a touch screen, full fitness integration, music control, and more.

Plus, you can get it for under $300! Buy it here.

If you want a classy and trendy watch, but don’t want to spend a few hundred dollars, check this out….

5. Wood Watch

These wood watches are a new trend, and Mr. Og is totally digging them. I have to say, they are just gorgeous!

Bewell makes a great quality wood watch, from natural material. It is non-toxic and hypo-allergenic. The hands are luminized as well, so you can still see the time in the dark. It also has a 36 month battery life, and is water resistant to 30 meters.

You seriously can’t beat the funky retro style either! He’ll love it! This is much less expensive than most nice looking watches.

It’s a great price at only $27.99. Get it here.

If your guy wants to have a time piece, but doesn’t want to wear it on his wrist, enter my next suggestion…

6. Zeiger Classic Mechanical Steampunk Pocket Watch

Who doesn’t like pocket watches? They are super classy and fun statement pieces!

This one is exquisite, with a gorgeous steampunk design and a black tone. To top it off, the surface is scratch resistant, and it features classic roman numerals. It’s also super affordable. He will feel classy and modern all at once!

Only $14.19! Find it here.

 7. Bear Paws Shredder Claws

Pretty much every manly man loves to BBQ meat. But who ends up shredding that beautiful brisket or pork roast for yummy sliders? Yea, in my house, it’s me.

With these super studly bear claws, you’ll never be given the meat shredding responsibility again. What guy doesn’t want to use these babies to shred up their perfectly cooked meat? I mean, it’s just another excuse for him to play with his food.

A steal at only $12.95! Get them here.

8. Beard Care Kit

For men with beards, a beard kit is the perfect gift. This one by QQ Wow is fabulous because it’s affordable, it includes beard oil, balm, and a quality wooden comb, and it all comes packed in a nice little reusable tin. So easy for traveling!

Only $19.99 to boot! Find it here.

If you don’t want to get him a beard care kit, at least grab him a quality bottle of beard oil. My very favorite is:

9. Topher’s Beard Oil

This beard oil is the shit! It smells absolutely incredible and instantly makes me want to jump Mr. Og’s bones! It also helps your guy’s beard to grow in thicker and healthier. Mr. Og’s beard is SO soft when he puts his Topher’s on! I’m in love with this stuff!

You only need a couple of drops–it goes a LONG way. Mr. Og can make this bottle last for almost 6 months.

Oh the smell! There are a ton of scents you can choose from. I’ve smelled four of them: Drunken Pirate, Whiskey & Woodsmoke, Sandalwood & Cedar, and Spiced Tobacco. I gotta say, my favorite is Spiced tobacco, but really, you can’t go wrong with any of them. They are all amazing!

It’s only $20.00!  Find it here.

10. Liquor Decanter Set

Most guys have a liquor of choice that they love to enjoy when their buddies come over, or by themselves in the evening after a hard day at work. Why not make the experience even finer for him with this stunning decanter set? It’s not only the coolest decanter ever, a 28 ounce globe with etched glass, but it’s also a work of art.

Each decanter is hand blown, with a custom designed ship on the inside. This kit also includes a wood base, two etched drinking glasses, eight stainless steel whiskey stones, a pair of tongs, a metal pour funnel, and a glass stopper! It’s a fantastic conversation piece, and I’m willing to bet it will even make his scotch taste smoother!

This is surprisingly affordable for only $39.99! Buy it here.

11. Xbox One X

Mr. OG likes to have the newest gaming console he can get. This year it’s the XBOX One X.

This puppy is loaded. You get a fully immersive 4K gaming experience with premium Dolby Atmos and DTS:X Audio, so he’ll feel like he’s ACTUALLY in the game. Plus it’s compatible with all things XBox One, so his old accessories and games will still work! You will love it too, because you can stream Netflix, Hulu, HBO Go and so much more in that quality 4K!

It’s the most expensive item on our list at $498.51, but totally worth it! Buy it here.

12. Call of Duty World War 2

If you get him the Xbox One X, you definitely need to get him the coolest new game for it, which is Call of Duty WWII! It just came out this month and it’s amazing. I’ve seen it played and the graphics are stunning! It still holds true to the COD we all love, too!

If you can’t afford to get the new gaming console, just pick him up this game, and he will love you forever!

Typical game price is $59.99. Get it here.

13.  Cologne Sampler

I’ve gifted this to many people over the years because it’s just so great! You know when you can’t decide what cologne or perfume you want? Don’t you wish you could try each kind for a day or two to see how you REALLY like it?

Enter Sephora’s solution: the cologne sampler (they also have a perfume sampler for women). The samples come in a nice classic travel bag, and you get 12 of the most popular men’s fragrances. The best part is that it comes with a certificate for a FULL-SIZED BOTTLE of the fragrance he likes best! This can be redeemed at any Sephora store in the U.S.

It’s only $65, and you can be sure it’s a scent he will love, because he will pick it out himself! Get it here.

14. Jerky of the Month Club

Every guy loves meat, and jerky counts! There are quite few monthly jerky clubs out there, but not all are created equal.

My favorite is Jerky Snob. There is no MSG, no nitrates, and no high fructose corn syrup, so you’re guy will still be healthy! Plus, they have a variety of different flavors that he’s sure to love!

Starting at only $15 a month (that doesn’t include S & H), it’s a steal! Join here.

15. Anti-Aging Kit

This may sound like a weird one, but check this: I’m 33 now, and therefore have been changing up my skincare routine A LOT. Mr. OG has gotten to hear about it many times.

One day he said he wanted to get himself a lotion for his face. It was the first time he’d ever expressed interest in skin care. But with us getting older, it’s something that has been on his mind.

Your guy will likely never go get himself anti-aging products, which is why this is such a great gift. It’ll get him on a great skincare routine without him feeling goofy about it.

This kit by Brickell is very well-reviewed, and it’s simple, just two products. First is the Revitalizing Anti Aging Cream, that firms and smooths his skin, and second is the Restoring Eye Cream that reduces puffiness & dark circles. Both work to smooth fine lines and wrinkles as well. Because it’s so simple, it shouldn’t be too hard for him to implement these into his morning or evening routine.

You can get it for $80, right here.

16. Make Your Own Hot Sauce Kit

At this point you may be starting to realize that I LOVE kits. This one is especially great because it involves your guy creating something of his own, which is half the fun! Almost every man loves a good hot sauce. This kit has excellent reviews on Amazon. It includes your ingredients for the sauce, as wells as  three bottles with lids and dashers, three fully customizable labels, a funnel, a pair of gloves, sanitizer, and a booklet with recipes and instructions. The whole shebang!

It’s also only $29.95. Get it here.

Is your guy not into spicy? Try this instead:

17. Make Your Own BBQ Sauce Kit

This is a great option for those gents who just don’t enjoy spiciness in their food. BBQ sauce is great as a marinade, or a dipping sauce. It’s Mr. Og’s very favorite.

With this kit you can make three different types of BBQ sauce. He will also still get that nice feeling of being able to enjoy something he made himself. All of the ingredients and supplies are included, so you don’t need to worry about anything missing, or having to gather extra ingredients. He’ll love it!

It’s also only $39.95! You can find it here.

18. Lifestraw Personal Water Filter

This thing is rad! There are so many situations where it can be useful.

You can take it camping, hiking, anywhere you travel, or you can put it into an emergency kit. It’s fantastic because it can really suck (oh the puns!) to have to carry around water. Water is heavy! So on that hiking trip, ditch the jugs and bring along your Lifestraw.

This baby can filter up to 1,000 liters of water. It doesn’t take batteries, and it surpasses EPA filter standards. It’s also only 9 inches long, so you can easily fit it pretty much anywhere. Your guy will love this tool!

It’s only $19.45! Buy it here.

19. Cyber Cleaning Putty

Cyber Cleaning Putting rocks! It’s a perfect little gift for a guy who loves his tech gadgets, and also is a bit of a clean freak (not mentioning any names, Mr. Og).  It works on almost any electronic gadget to get all that dust and gunk that even those aerosol cleaning duster cans leave behind.

You can use it on keyboards, phones, cameras, calculators, portable speakers, the back of your computer, the mouse, and any other electronic equipment you can think of. Even better, it can be used on kitchen appliances, remote controls, window sills, fans, brief cases, watches, jewelry, and so much more. It also has a nice fresh lemony clean smell to it.  It may not be the most exciting gift, but I guarantee it will be one he uses all the time!

It doesn’t break the bank either at only $10.99. Get it here.

20. Personalized White Oak Aging Barrel

What guy isn’t going to love his own personalized whiskey (or whatever spirit he likes) barrel? It looks wicked cool and will be one of his favorite pieces to expand his bar collection.

This barrel is two liters, and you can use it to age whiskey, beer, wine, tequila, rum, and even things like vinegar or honey. You can also have it engraved with your man’s name or nickname as well, making it completely his own–one of a kind.

It’s not only useful, but it’s a great conversation starter and a true work of art.

It’s also only $59.95! Buy it here.

21. BROUK & CO Leather Golf Flask

For your guy who loves to golf, this is one of the most unique and super cool gifts I’ve found.

Mr. Og loves to golf, but after a couple of years of Christmases, birthdays, and anniversaries, he pretty much has everything under the sun he could possibly need for the sport. Enter this little guy. It’s not only extremely well-made, but it also looks super sleek!

It hold 8 ounces of his favorite liquor, and some golf tools: 2 removable markers, 4 wooden tees, and a divot tool. As if that weren’t awesome enough, it also conveniently clips right to his golf bag!

Totally worth it for $43.27! Get it here.

22. Stadium Art Print

For your sport lover, why not get him a killer piece of art for his man cave (or man corner)?

This is an awesome print of Mr. Og’s favorite team stadium, the Century Link field where the Seattle Seahawks play. You can find just about any stadium your guy will like, whether it’s football, baseball, college, or the big leagues. Check Amazon. They have aerial photos, blueprint styles, drawings, paintings and more!

This print is only $29.95, so you can afford a nice frame for it, too! Get it here.

23. Bottle Loft

I love this gift so much because it’s a space saver! It comes with two VERY strong magnetic strips that you can hang a six pack of beer bottles from.

It’s super easy to install, and you will love the extra space it frees up for you in the fridge. Plus, it’s just cool looking, am I right? He will appreciate the simplicity but total coolness of this little gem of a gift!

It’s only $29.99. Find it here.

24. Magnetic Wristband

This wristband is super awesome for your mister! There’s always something to hammer, nail, hang, straighten, or whatever in your house. Out comes Mr. Handyman with thirteen nails stuck in his mouth. Inevitably, he swallows one and drops the other twelve.

Not anymore! The Magnetic Wristband by Magnogrip is great for those projects. Your guy can stick the nails right onto the wristband, and they aren’t going anywhere! No choking hazard, and no stepping on a nail three months later. Everybody wins!

You can get it for only $10.45. Buy here.

25. Folding Compact Workbench

Portable gifts are just great! Your guy can easily unfold this workbench anywhere he needs to do some real work. By the kitchen sink, or the washer, in the back yard, or in the garage.

He can also take it with him if he has a project that needs to be done away from home. He will love how easy it is to fold and carry.

It holds up to 1000 pounds, and has two 12 inch clamps. Here are the dimensions:  (W X D X H): 85.0 X 55.0 X 75.5cms. This will be a guaranteed winner!

It’s super affordable at $74.33! Get it here.

26. The Godfather on Blu-Ray

Every guy should own this series by Francis Ford Coppola. It doesn’t get much more classic than this!

Give him the chance to watch the rise and fall of the Corleone family. This is packed with amazing actors: Al Pacino, James Caan, Robert Duvall, Marlon Brando. It was also nominated for ten Academy Awards, winning three of them, including the highly coveted Best Picture.

He will cherish this masterpiece forever!

It’s only $29.78 for the whole set on blu-ray! Get it here.

27. Grilled Cheese Bags

Sure, this may seem like a simple, cheap, cheesy gift, and that’s because it IS (pun TOTALLY intended).

These bags are awesome! They make a fantastic grilled cheese sandwich, and he doesn’t have to pull out pans, spatulas, wash dishes, and all that jazz. He can easily slip his bread and cheese into the bag and throw it right into the toaster! Best of all, you don’t get stuck with the cleanup.

This is also great for bachelors and college students, or for when you are out of town and your mister has to fend for himself. It’s a set of three, and they are disposable, so he can just toss them when done!

They are only $6.49. Get them here.

28. Echo Show

A lot of guys have received the Echo or the Echo Dot in the last couple of years. I’m pretty sure Mr. Og considers Alexa his mistress. He loves her.

Now you can impress your guy even MORE with the Echo Show. This has everything you already love about Alexa, but it adds video! You can make calls, connect it to security cameras and baby monitors, watch music videos or cooking tutorials (while cooking), look at photos, and more, all hands free!

It also has Dolby processing, extended bass response, eight microphones, beam-forming technology, and noise cancellation for excellent audio quality and response. The one thing I’ve always thought was missing from Alexa was the visual component, and now it’s here. Believe me, he will love love LOVE this!

It’s decently priced at $229.99. Get it here.

29. Beard Shaving Bib

Honestly, this looks like it’s for him, but it’s kind of for YOU.

Mr. Og always leaves hair everywhere when he shaves or trims his hair. Try as he may, there’s always little bits of hair in the sink, in cracks, on the floor. It’s everywhere! Not anymore with this beard shaving bib.

It fits around his neck like the typical aprons you wear to get your hair cut. But the ends suction to the mirror, so it catches all the hair, and makes disposal a cinch!

This comes with a free stainless steel beard shaping tool, a beard catcher mat and a travel bag. No more hair all over the bathroom!

It’s also only $11.98! Find it here.

And finally, last but certainly not least……..

30. Full-Size Kegorator

Ladies, this is guaranteed to make him a happy man! What guy doesn’t want to be able to drink fresh poured draft beer in the comfort of his own home? What girls doesn’t want that either, for that matter?

This is especially great for fellas that like to home brew. The specs are impressive: It has a 5.1 cubic foot capacity, a double meter regulator, a 2.5 pound CO2 tank, a removable drip tray, an adjustable thermostat, a double tap system and more!

It’s a great gift for enjoying a beer after work, or for hosting a party and serving some home brew to all your friends. They will be impressed, and he will love it, I promise you that!

Boxycharm October Unboxing! (Just a LITTLE Late)

Boxycharm October Unboxing! (Just a LITTLE Late)

No other box delivers the fantastic value of Boxycharm. Every month I find myself wondering how they can send so many amazing and EXPENSIVE products, but only charge $21! It rocks my socks!

You can sign up here.

I got my box late this month. With moving, and signing up again, my box was sent 1,300 miles away to Washington. I had a HARD time waiting! But, alas, it did FINALLY arrive.

THE BOX:

October didn’t disappoint! Let’s dive right in:

This month’s theme was Spellbound, perfect for Halloween! There is always a nice little information card that explains what products you are getting, and lets you know their retail value. Like so:

So first, I was super stoked to get a full-sized bottle of Dr. Brandt’s Poredermabrasion Exfoliator.

This stuff rocks! It has a nice creamy texture, with these little micro crystals that do a fabulous job of getting rid of dead skin cells and gunk that doesn’t belong on our face. It smells fantastic, too! It’s sort of minty and fresh, but not overboard. My skin always feels so refreshed after using this!

This retails for $58, but I checked Amazon, and you can get it for $25.99 with free shipping. Which is more than the cost of the whole box. So awesome!

Next we have the DLS Eyeshadow chubby.

I’m not a huge fan of these, because my eyelids tend to get oily, so I get crease-grease about halfway through the day. But if used as an eyeshadow base, with a powder over it, it stays put much better. This color is gorgeous too!!

The price is $14 on the card. Online, I could only find this shade new for $10 + $6.49 shipping at Poshmark.

The next items are the Jonteblu Lip Liner Pencil and the Tarte Tartiest Dry Quick Matte Lip Paint.

This my first time trying the Jonteblu lip liner. It seems like your average liner. Good pigmentation, and stays on pretty well. It says  $5 on the card. I found it on Amazon for $4.50 + free shipping.

The Tarte Lip Paint is great! Not only does it stay on FOREVER, but this color is one of those perfect light nudes that goes great with a smokey eye. I think these two will do well together to create a contoured lip.

The card says retail is $20. On Amazon? $19.97 + free shipping. Here’s a swatch of them both:

MY FAVE ITEM OF THIS MONTH:

I saved the best for last! I was SOSOSO excited to get this Becca Shimmering Skin Perfecter Liquid Highlighter!!!

This is one I’ve always wanted, but it’s spendy!! It retails for $41! (Maybe I’m just cheap)

I’m so happy to have the full-sized version too!

Look at how it makes skin glow! This is a gorgeous color, and the shimmer is microfine so it never looks chunky or tacky. It goes with almost every skin tone. It’s also really versatile.  You can wear it as a base under your foundation, or you can use it as a highlighter after foundation. LOVE!

The card says retail is $41, and Amazon says it’s $39.98 + free shipping.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

This month’s box was great! It held up to the high standard that Boxycharm consistently performs at. Between the Becca Highlighter and the Dr. Brandt Exfoliator, I got MORE than what I paid for, plus there were 3 more products!

The total value of everything, according to the information card sent with the products is $138. I found all of these items online for $106.93. Again, the cost of the box is $21/ month. Like I said, no other beauty subscription boxes even compare in value for the price!

I am not paid or affiliated with Boxycharm in any way. I buy a monthly subscription like everyone else. I just love them THAT much!

I highly recommend signing up! If you sign up using my referral link, we BOTH get extra points, which can go toward free products!

Talk to ya soon Broads!
